Land Use & Ownership – outputs from the SRIP session on 1st November 2023
This session was curated by Community Land Scotland, with land representing a central theme of the SRIP. Its ownership and governance, underpins a prosperous and sustainable future for Scotland.
The session uncovered considerable frustration at the lack of meaningful land reform and inaction on land justice, despite the Scottish Government repeatedly claiming to be committed to it.
During workshop sessions on ‘environment and nature regeneration’ at the Youth Parliament and during a synthesis workshop with all delegates on land, the inequity of land ownership in Scotland and its governance continually arose as one of the central challenges facing rural and island places and people.
Youth delegates, aged between 16-30 representing a multitude of areas of Scotland, produced a collective statement which was read out during this inaugural event.
