Democracy & Local Governance – outputs from the SRIP session on 1st November 2023
Curated by The Scottish Community Alliance (SCA), this session focused on the need for people to have far greater control over the future of the places in which they live. These new expressions of local democracy, to be consolidated by primary legislation, will enable community wealth to be built from the bottom up and support the transition to a wellbeing economy.
The SCA hosted a hybrid workshop using a world cafe approach with delegates.
A key phase of discussion was: how we create democracy that is thriving at a community level, and come up with a realistic plan to reboot local governance.
A number of discussions came up as part of this theme, including: the accountability of new bodies; how they would fit into existing structures; what powers might be included; and potential consequences/ what could go wrong.
